August 2, 2008 - Campbell Named to AMNRL All-Star Team…..

Congratulations to Eagles’ second-rower Kevin Campbell who earlier this week was named to the 2008 AMNRL All-Star team.  Campbell, playing his first season of rugby league, will be joined on the All-Stars by a number of current and former US international players.  The team is scheduled to take on the touring New Zealand Police side on August 23 as a curtain raiser to the 2008 grand final.

 

August 2, 2008 - End of Season Awards…..

The Eagles held their end-of-season award ceremony and party this past Saturday at the Buffalo Wings House.  The following awards were presented:

· Most Improved Player - Andrew Reddy

· Outstanding Performance and Appreciation Award - Kevin Campbell

· Best Forward - Joey Tropea

· Best Back - James Lewis

· Most Valuable Player - Michael Zelinsky

 

Congratulations to the award winners, as well as the entire Fairfax Eagles squad for a great inaugural campaign in 2008.  Pictures from the event can be found here…..

     

 

 

July 26, 2008 - Eagles Lose Make-up Game to Slayers…..

Despite leading for most of the game, and enjoying an 18  - 6 halftime lead, the Eagles fell 28 - 18 to the DC Slayers at War at the Shore.  The game was a make-up from the Round 4 fixture that was postponed due to safety concerns.  Although the Eagles scored four tries and secured a bonus point, the loss all but eliminates the team from the playoffs.  The match report will be available shortly.

 

July 26, 2008 - Eagles Claim Second Victory Against Fight…..

Win number two of season came on Saturday courtesy of a 34 - 24 victory over the Philadelphia Fight at War at the Shore.  The Eagles notched seven tries on the day to secure a bonus point.  The match report will be available shortly.

 

July 19, 2008 - Eagles Schooled by Bulls 88 - 0…..

The Eagles were given a rugby league lesson by the 6-time AMNRL champion Aston DCS Bulls on Saturday.  The match report can be read here…..

 

July 12, 2008 - Eagles Lose to Sharks…..

The Eagles were downed 58 - 28 by the Bucks County Sharks today.  Match report can be read here, and pictures from the day can be found here…..

 

June 28, 2008 - Slayers Game Postponed…..

Saturday’s eagerly anticipated rematch against the DC Slayers was cancelled due to safety concerns surrounding field equipment.  Specifically, no goal post pads were provided and the referee, in conjunction with officials from both clubs, determined that the game should be postponed in the interests of player safety.  Numerous alternatives to providing goal post pads were offered by both clubs and the referee, but none were agreeable on the day.  The AMNRL has judged that the game should be replayed at War of the Shore on July 26, with kick-off tentatively scheduled for 4:30 pm.  Both teams will play double-headers that day, with the Eagles taking on the Philadelphia Fight at 1:30 pm, and the Slayers battling the Bucks County Sharks at 12:30 pm. 

 

June 21, 2008 - Eagles Win Against Fight…..

The Eagles got their first even win today courtesy of a 36 - 10 result on the road against the Philadelphia Fight.  Match report can be read here…..

 

June 14, 2008 - Eagles Lose Second Straight to Bulls…..

The Eagles showed a lot of heart against a strong Bulls team but eventually went down 56 - 22.  Match report can be read here, pictures can be found here, and video footage of the first quarter can be found here…..

 

June 7, 2008 - Eagles Lose Home Opener…..

Despite a spirited debut on Saturday, the Eagles went down 14 - 40 to the Washington DC Slayers.  The official match report can be found here, and pictures from the day can be found here…..

August 23, 2008 - Grand Final…..

Congratulations to the New Haven Warriors who defeated the Aston Bulls 50-18 to claim their first AMNRL championship.  Appearing in their first final, the Warriors led from start to finish and ended the season undefeated.  For the Bulls, Saturday’s loss was their third grand final defeat in a row.

August 23, 2008 - All-Star Game…..

In the grand final curtain-raiser, the AMNRL All-Stars were soundly beaten by the touring New Zealand Police team 46-12.  One bright spot for the All-Stars was the performance of Eagles second-rower Kevin Campbell.  In addition to delivering several big hits on defense, Campbell injected pace and power into the All-Star’s running game.  Congratulations again to Kevin for his selection to the All-Star team, and for representing the Fairfax Eagles on the international stage.   

August 29, 2008 - New Eagles Merchandise Available…..

The Eagles are pleased to introduce three new items to the merchandising line.  The new items include rugby balls ($25 each), official 2008 team t-shirts ($10 each), and Fairfax Eagles car stickers ($3 each).  A limited number of 2008 playing jerseys are also available for $55.  The new merchandise in on-sale now, and can be ordered at fairfaxeagles@hotmail.com.
