March 18, 2008 - Eagles Incorporated….. In keeping with the club’s intention to incorporate the Fairfax Eagles as a domestic, not-for-profit corporation in the Commonwealth of Virginia, the State Corporation Commission recently awarded the club corporate status. As a result, the club will now be legally known as the Fairfax Eagles Rugby League Club Incorporated. Following this incorporation the club intends to pursue tax-exempt status under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. The benefits of becoming a not-for-profit corporation include legal protection for the club’s officers and members, money donated to the club is tax-deductible, and club players can deduct expenses from their annual taxes (mileage, donations, playing kit, etc.). There is also a belief amongst the club’s directors that incorporation brings a level of professionalism and credibility to the organization. More details will follow when the club’s not-for-profit status has been confirmed.
