November 7, 2007 - Eagles Announce International Partnership….. The Fairfax Eagles are pleased to announce an international partnership has been formed with the South Yorkshire Rugby League Service Area (SYRLSA). The SYRLSA, based in northern England, provides a structure which enables all groups involved with Rugby League in the South Yorkshire area to work together with other agencies towards the common goal of developing rugby league. This includes working in partnership with a number of agencies across South Yorkshire including professional clubs, local authorities, schools and school sport partnerships, amateur clubs, and other community organisations. The overall aim of the SYRLSA is to improve both the quality and quantity of rugby league clubs, coaches, volunteers, and players in the South Yorkshire area, and to give as many young people as possible the opportunity to play rugby league.
The SYRLSA is represented by under 12’s, 13’s, 14’s, 15’s, and 18’s teams. These sides comprise the best young rugby league players from schools and amateur clubs in South Yorkshire, and compete in a program organized by the Rugby Football League with players having the opportunity to be selected to the Yorkshire regional camp each year. The SYRLSA also supports and guides amateur clubs across South Yorkshire in a wide range of areas such as club and volunteer development programs, funding advice and support, and helping to encourage kids in local schools to join amateur rugby league clubs. In addition, the SYRLSA coordinates a number of schemes and projects including a coach development and education program, a junior coach development project, and coordination and administration of a South Yorkshire schools competition framework.
The partnership between the Fairfax Eagles and the SYRLSA is still in it’s infancy, but the goal over the next few years is to trade coaching techniques, compare organizational structures, swap advice on how to best develop and/or initiate youth rugby league, and to provide overseas playing opportunities for young players.
