October 6, 2007 - Bentley in 15’s Action…..

Eagles forward and Vice-President Dain Bentley took the field this past Saturday for our friends from the rugby union world, West Potomac RFC.  Bentley, who has started in three of West Potomac’s last four games, took his regular position of hooker for this match-up against Warrenton RFC.  The game was a close affair early, with West Potomac coming from  behind in the second half to win the game 29 - 19.  Bentley played well on the day and made a number of key tackles, as well as helping to disrupt the Warrenton scrum.  Following this victory West Potomac moves to 5 - 0 on the season, and now have a bye week before traveling to Penn State to take on division rivals Happy Valley.  The Fairfax Eagles wish West Potomac the best of luck for the rest of the season.  Anyone interested in training and/or playing with West Potomac this fall and/or winter should contact us at fairfaxeagles@hotmail.com

October 17, 2007 - Rabbitohs to take on Rhinos in Jacksonville…..

Pulling off another phenomenal coup, Jacksonville Axemen coach ‘Spinner’ Howland recently announced that the current English Super League champions Leeds Rhinos will take on Russell Crowe’s South Sydney Rabbitohs in Jacksonville on January 26, 2008.  This will be the first event of it’s kind, and is sure to draw a massive crowd to the University of North Florida’s 9,300 seat Hodges Stadium, home of the Jacksonville Axemen.  Said current Fairfax Eagles President Steven Grant, “Spinner deserves a lot of credit for pulling this one off.  Giving the US the chance to see two of the best rugby league teams in the world square-off will do wonders for the game in this country…...a remarkable achievement and once again Spinner has raised the bar”.  Several members of the current Fairfax Eagles playing squad will be traveling to Jacksonville for the event.  If you are interested in traveling to Jacksonville with the team, or just hoping for a Russell Crowe sighting, please contact us at fairfaxeagles@hotmail.com.  Tickets and additional information about the event are available at www.jaxaxe.com.

October 12, 2007 - Eagles Tour New Ballpark…..

Fairfax Eagles President Steven Grant and rehabbing centre Greg Hughel were today given a behind-the-scenes tour of the brand new Washington Nationals ballpark in southeast Washington, DC.  In an effort to strengthen ties with local sporting franchises and to see the quality of facilities being offered to the pros, Grant welcomed the opportunity to tour the stadium.  “The facilities are first class”, said Grant, “plasma screens in the locker rooms, state-of-the art fitness equipment, no expense spared and not a bad seat in the house.  We’re a few years away from this ourselves, but it definitely gives us something to aim for.  If in my time as President we can play in an arena half as good as this, we’ll have done well”.  The 41,000 seat stadium is located along the Anacostia River in DC and features a number of fan amenities including luxury suites, club level seating, and numerous restaurants and sports bars.  The Washington Nationals are scheduled to officially open the stadium in the spring of 2008.

October 19, 2007 - Joke of the Day…..

A little girl was sitting in her classroom in England when her teacher walked in and started talking about how proud she is to be English and how wonderful it is to be an England supporter. The teacher then asked everyone who supported England to put up their hand.  Every hand in the class besides one went up. This surprised the teacher and so she asked the little girl why her hand wasn't up.

"Well," said the little girl, "because I don’t support England."

Even more surprised, the teacher asked her who she supported. "I support the Springboks", she replied.  Now a bit irritated, the teacher asked the little girl why she supported the Springboks.  "My mom supports the Springboks and my dad supports the Springboks, so I support the Springboks."  The teacher looked at the little girl and with a smirk asked: "Well, if your mom was an idiot and your dad was an idiot, what would you be?"

The little girl looked up at her teacher, smiled and replied:

"An England supporter!"
